Computer Basics – Introduction

In collaboration with Northstar Digital Literacy, we offer a comprehensive assessment that will let you know if you have the computer skills needed to be successful in school, work and at home. After testing, if you need to improve your skills, we can help you design a learning plan, either with a class or with personalized online lessons you can do from your own home! Face to face online and in person options available. Ongoing enrollment.

Computer Cafe

A computer lab designed to offer a space for people to access computer support from an experienced teacher, compassionate volunteers and fellow participants. You will be given instruction, as well as support in accessing information for learning new skills on your own. This is a 12-week lab. You purchase a punch card for 6 sessions, which can be renewed. Students enrolled in our academic programs receive a fee waiver for this session. Unfortunately, you’ll have to bring your own coffee! This is an in person lab. Ongoing enrollment.

Get Ready to ZOOM! We are here to support you! Many of our offerings are now online. To make the most of your Ellsworth Adult Ed courses, please register for this training so you are ready to join ZOOM with confidence and all will run smoothly for you and for others during your class or workshop. Online courses are generally shorter than in person sessions, so we strive to do everything we can to ensure that the course starts on time by addressing technical issues in advance. Our support is individualized and involves a survey (phone or email), resources (guides and videos), and in person or online practice sessions. Before your online course begins, you will need:

a device with a camera and microphone (internal or external);
access to ZOOM on your device;
knowledge of how to join a ZOOM meeting;
the ability to navigate the buttons on the ZOOM screen;
an understanding of how to use communication tools like chat, hand raising and more; and,
an awareness of etiquette to make the most of the experience for you and for others.

This workshop prepare you! We will be there to support you so you can make the most of your Ellsworth Adult Education workshops, as well as connect with family, friends, religious services and meetings. Please reach out to us!

IC3 Digital Literacy Certification Academy

If you've ever wanted to earn a certification to document your technology skills and knowledge, there's no time like the present. Thanks to the Maine Department of Education, this certification training and exam are available at no cost until March 2021.

IC3 (Internet Core Competency Certification) Digital Literacy Certification is a global benchmark for basic computer literacy, including operating systems, hardware, software, and networks. The IC3 certifications test concepts and skills that apply to almost any school or career pathway. This course prepares you for the IC3 Certification exam using LearnKey curriculum and the support of a veteran adult education instructor. IC3 Certification is the first step toward achieving the COMPTIA A+ Certification which is offered in March 2021. This course is offered in conjunction with WorkReady. This course will run from November to March. The class will be designed based on student needs. It will likely be an online course with regularly scheduled time for individual and group learning. This is an online course. Ongoing enrollment.

Staying safe on-line is important on so many levels, whether it’s keeping your information and financials private, or making sure your children are safe on-line. Join us for some tips for safety on the web. Basic computer skills including hardware and software basics, are required for this workshop. This is a live online class.
