A classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrive. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use, and is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid, CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. A Bureau of Highway Safety course aimed at improving a student's defensive driving awareness and abilities. The five-hour course includes discussion of collision avoidance techniques, safety issues, driver habits and attitudes and the basic elements that constantly challenge drivers on Maine's highways. The course format engages participants with a mixture of lectures, videos, and class discussion and participation. Upon completion, students will receive a three-point credit on their driving record. Some insurance companies give discounts after completing this course, so check with your company for details. Makeup class, if needed, 12/17/19. Fee: Under age 65 - $40.00; age 65 and over - $25.00.
