If you’re planning on continuing your education, you’ll research options and complete financial aid forms. If you’re seeking work, you’ll do a job search, write a resume, fill out job applications, and prepare for interviews. Several technology workshops may be facilitated on the topics of Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Drive and Applications, managing files and folders, cloud storage, web-based learning, and more. Whether you are continuing your education or want to get organized to find and keep rewarding work, this course is for you. Face to face online or in person; ongoing enrollment.

Ellsworth Adult Education's academic program is focused on people’s goals, strengths, and interests. The first step is to meet with our student advisor to make a realistic plan that will keep you interested and fit your schedule. Together, you’ll choose from the menu of assessments below - depending on your goals - and then you’ll meet with the advisor or an instructor to review the results and finalize your plan.

We believe that taking time in advance of your placement in classes and other learning activities makes the most efficient use of your time to reach your goals for continuing your education and finding rewarding work.

eCASAS: a reading, math and listening assessment that gives you a snapshot of your skills when you start with us. Towards the end of your time with us, you’ll take it again, giving you a snapshot of how we helped you improve your skills. The time for this test varies significantly but you can plan on about 60 minutes for each test.

Assessment Interview: gives you a chance to share some of your own insights about your learning and experiences in school. Approx. 20-30 minutes.

HiSET Official Practice Test: Educational Testing Service provides official practice tests taken to determine your readiness for the official test in each of the five subjects. The practice tests provide you with specific information about what you need to study to prepare for the official High School Equivalency Test. There are five subtests and they vary between 35-80 minutes each.

Writing Prompt: This will give you an opportunity to get feedback on your writing. Your teacher reviews your writing sample with you to plan your next step, with the aim of improving your writing skills to meet your educational and career goals. Approximately 30-40 minutes.

Accuplacer: evaluates students' skills in reading, writing, and math to assess their preparedness for introductory, credit-bearing college courses.

World of Work Institute (WOWI) Career Assessment: measures interests, achievements and work styles. Work can give your life meaning. It often defines who you are, determines who you spend time with, and how you live. Because the right job can enrich your life, whereas the wrong job can drain you mentally, physically and spiritually, it is critical to avoid mistaken career paths and to find your own unique, satisfying place in the world of work.

Northstar Digital Literacy Assessment: an on-line assessment of basic computer skills, consisting of ten modules. The time for each of these modules varies significantly for different people. You’ll get a sense of how long they will take you after you complete the first module. Approximately 30-40 minutes.

IC3 is an industry-recognized, digital literacy credential which consists of three exams (computer fundamentals, key applications, and living online). Each exam takes about 50 minutes. The first step is a practice test and then you prepare for the credential exam using an online learning program called LearnKey. The official certification exam is available in Bangor.

If you've ever wanted to earn a certification to document your technology skills and knowledge, there's no time like the present. Thanks to the Maine Department of Education, this certification training and exam are available at no cost until March 2021.

IC3 (Internet Core Competency Certification) Digital Literacy Certification is a global benchmark for basic computer literacy, including operating systems, hardware, software, and networks. The IC3 certifications test concepts and skills that apply to almost any school or career pathway. This course prepares you for the IC3 Certification exam using LearnKey curriculum and the support of a veteran adult education instructor. IC3 Certification is the first step toward achieving the COMPTIA A+ Certification which is offered in March 2021. This course is offered in conjunction with WorkReady. This course will run from November to March. The class will be designed based on student needs. It will likely be an online course with regularly scheduled time for individual and group learning. This is an online course. Ongoing enrollment.

WorkReady is a portable credential endorsed by businesses throughout Maine. The course is designed around seven standards critical for finding a career that’s a good fit, landing a job and keeping it - the WorkReady curriculum addresses seven basic standards, including personal motivations and challenges to employment, effective communication and interpersonal skills, understanding taxes and benefits, job searching, and resume and portfolio preparation. This is an online class. Ongoing enrollment.
