Perspective Drawing and Painting

with Mary Laury

Feb
7

February 7th to 28th, 2023

$119 More Info

Drawing in perspective is a skill that is not intuitive. It was discovered during the Renaissance and has changed the way we paint and draw forever after. We will do this the longhand way, with horizon lines, vanishing points, rulers, and yardsticks. If you want to paint buildings or the interior of a room accurately, this is a skill that must be learned.  Materials list:  pencils, eraser, ruler or two, yardstick or two, computer paper to draw on, tap, a page protector, a Sharpie pen and large paper like you would get on a roll – maybe 40 inches long. Wrapping paper will do. This is just for reference marks.  Choose some pictures of buildings you might like to draw. Perhaps your house? Maybe a lighthouse? Start with a simple structure at first.  This is an in-person course held at the Moore Community Center, an accessible facility with an elevator.

Makeup class, if needed, 03/07/23.

Mary Laury served as the founding Executive Director of Schoodic Arts for All, an award winning non-profit organization celebrating the arts and culture in Downeast Maine for over 20 years. The botanical subjects and dynamic nature of Maine are Mary's passions. An experienced teacher, she has taught painting and drawing in classrooms and in the field for many programs throughout her career.
